COERR Aranyaprathet Celebrated A Dozen Years of Child Sponsorship Program

Since 2005, COERR with the support of the Enfants du Mekong of Thailand started the Sponsorship for poor children, most of them were offspring of the landmine handicapped villagers who lived along the borderline of Tapraya District, Sakaew Province. The first batch of 50 poor students were provided sponsorship since then. It was more than 12 years that the sponsorship has expanded to many poor children who have benefited from this program. In December 2017, the program has been sponsoring 133 poor children, consisting of 120 in Sakaew Province, 11 children in Surin Province and 2 children in Mae Hong Son Province.

Every month, each poor child under the sponsorship program receive cash allowance which enable him/her to cover part of tuition fee, education materials, uniform, transportation to school and personal expenditures. This helps to relieve the burden of the child’s parents or grandparents who are poor farmers or daily labors with little income and many children to take care. The sponsorship program has enabled children to continue their education in schools, universities or vocational institutions and have better livelihood opportunities.
